Al Jazeera English is having a Global Day of Action in support of journalists jailed in Egypt and freedom of expression this Thursday.
The idea is to take photos (mouths taped shut, holding a sign saying #freeajstaff and/or #journalismisnotacrime) and post to Twitter, Facebook etc. AJE is also doing a Thunderclap. Please see below for more information.
What is a Thunderclap?
Thunderclap allows people to pledge a Tweet, Facebook post, or Tumblr post containing the same message that's unleashed all at the same time. Think of it as a massive flash mob on social media.
What you need to do TODAY and how:
1. Visit http://thndr.it/1nTMx5Z and click on a red "Support with" button for Twitter, Facebook, or Tumblr.
2. Click "Add My Support"
3. You'll be prompted to authorize your account so Thunderclap can post a message for you, agree.
4. Spread the word and get 5 other people to do it who DO NOT work at Al Jazeera to help make it truly viral.
What happens: At 9 AM EST (14:00 GMT / 5 PM DOHA) on Feb 27th, Thunderclap will post simultaneously to the hundreds of Twitter and Facebook accounts supporting the campaign - hopefully sending it viral, again.
* Please note that Thursday's gathering at the Ampang LRT has been cancelled.
